Every day we receive
questions about Chatham-Kent, our medical facilities, our incentive
packages, our real estate, our schools, our lifestyle and just about
everything else in between! We created this list to help you understand
what we are all about. If there is something that you are curious about
that is not listed here, please contact us and we would be more than
happy to explain.
Are the health
facilities in Chatham-Kent adequate for my kind of practice?
Chatham-Kent Health
Alliance is a progressive partnership of 3 hospitals on two sites
encompassing 280 beds with state-of-the-art diagnostic (PACS) and
support services. Comprehensive local, multi specialty back up includes
General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Gynaecology and
Paediatrics. Other support includes Orthopaedics, Urology,
Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Oral Surgery and Psychiatry. We also
share strong linkages to nearby academic centres.
As a result of the
recent Strategic Planning Process the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has undergone, new
Market Share information is available for your use.
We have just
completed a $80 million
capital
building project where three sites were brought into two with a main
campus in Chatham and another smaller campus in Wallaceburg. We are so
proud of our new facilities and we know that you will find them to be
very impressive! We hope you will come and visit our Whole New World!
Would my
partner find employment in the community?
In a community of our size, it is natural for the hospitals to have
a close relationship with the largest employers of the community. We are
committed to assisting your partner in the search
for continued employment in a variety of professions.
Would this
area provide quality education for my children?
The community provides excellent Public,
Separate and Private, French Catholic & Christian schools at the
elementary and secondary levels. St. Clair College operates its Thames
Campus in Chatham. The University of Windsor has a satellite office
located at St. Clair College. Universities are available within driving
distance.
What are the
cultural, recreational and social opportunities in the area?
Chatham-Kent is located in the heart of beautiful Southwestern Ontario,
midway between London and Windsor. The
local opportunities for you and your family are plentiful. We offer
close proximity to the very best in
recreation, concerts, theatre and professional sports.
What is the
financial package offered?
We tailor to your needs! We take the time to speak with every
physician we meet about what their needs are coming into our community.
We then tailor a package that best reflects what you need. A vehicle? A
fully-equipped office? Paying down school loans? A down payment on a
home? We have found that every physician is in a difference financial
place, so instead of offering one standard package, we prefer to give
you help where you need it most!
The community of
Chatham-Kent offers attractive incentives
including administrative financial support for CME activities,
relocation grants, and assistance with licensing and spousal employment
issues. The community has also come up with some very unique soft
incentives as well to offer new physicians. As well, Chatham-Kent Health
Alliance offers a fee for service system and an alternate funding
agreement in the Emergency departments.
What does "Underserviced"
mean?
Chatham-Kent is designated "underserviced" with over 20 positions for
Family Physicians currently available. FPs relocating to Chatham-Kent
may be eligible for a number of
Underserviced Area Programs, which may include incentive grants of
up to $15,000 and a Free Tuition Program that offers FPs up to $40,000
in exchange for a return-of-service commitment.
Would I be
able to join an existing partnership or practice?
There are many established and busy group practices in the Municipality
of Chatham-Kent. Again, it’s all about the perfect fit. We want to know
what you are looking for in terms of practice and we can match you based
on our records of what opportunities are available. We can introduce you
to practicing physicians in our community and you can even work Locum
Tenens in a few potential offices before you decide if you wish. We aim
to create a positive working environment for all physicians in
Chatham-Kent!
Would I have
access to continuing education?
Yes, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance encourages and supports CME
activities.
Is the
practice rural or metropolitan?
Our rural community of 107,000 people
offers safe neighbourhoods and affordable housing, golf, beaches, lakes
and easy access to larger communities and nearby academic centres.
