Chatham-Kent physicians are very happy with their
decision to live and practice in this community - take a look at what
some of them have to say!
"Our decision to establish our careers and lives in C-K
has proven to be wise. We have been embraced not only by the people of
C-K but also by the medical community. In speaking with the recruitment
team we were put in contact with various community leaders. These
individuals showed us the hidden charms of C-K as well as the many
upcoming treasures. The medical community has shown us how rewarding
family medicine can be when practiced in an atmosphere of mutual respect
and collegial cooperation. In C-K the opportunity to tailor a practice
to your individual interests is remarkable. C-K offers FPs a diverse
range of practice options such as office, ER, surgical assists, minor
procedures, OB, pediatrics, inpatients and geriatrics along with the
flexibility to choose which areas fit your interests. As a FP, being
able to create a well rounded practice is an important aspect in
choosing a community. All of these factors combined have made for a
smooth and pleasant transition from residency to professional practice
in our new home, Chatham-Kent."
-- Dr. David Huffman MD, Family Physician - Recruited Winter 2002
"My decision to locate in Chatham- Kent was based upon
two key factors. The first factor was the ability to practice diverse
family medicine. The ability to practice low risk obstetrics and
provide emergency care in addition to operating a family medicine clinic
provided me with the challenges and diversity that I desired.
Chatham-Kent is small enough that you get to know your fellow colleagues
and large enough that specialist back up is present when you require
it. The second key drawing feature in Chatham-Kent is the progressive
medical community. With a new amalgamated hospital system that operates
a state of the art information technology system, I am able to offer my
patients quality care while taking advantage of the efficiencies that
this system provides. These two factors in conjunction with
Chatham-Kent's strong school system, growing entertainment sector, and
proximity to the Great Lakes for outdoor pursuits made it an easy choice
for a community to raise a family and practice medicine in."
--Dr. Jason Denys MD, Family Physician - Recruited Summer 2004
"I relocated to Chatham-Kent from a nearby rural area.
The physicians and hospital staff of CKHA have made me feel very
welcome. This is an exciting medical community because of the feeling of
change and growth, particularly with the two notable projects of primary
care reform and the restructuring of the hospitals to one site. It feels
good to be in a community of increasing rather than shrinking resources.
The diagnostic investigation units and the Specialty departments are
excellent back-up for any community family physician. The Kent County
Medical Society has a very well organized program of continuing medical
education and social events.
My family is enjoying getting to know the area. Winter has brought us
into the many hockey arenas, basketball courts, schools, churches,
shops, restaurants and theatres. The wealth of vocal, instrumental and
piano teachers we have come to know have been second to none. The warm
spring weather has us out and rollerblading, biking and walking in the
lovely paths along the many creeks. The children are looking forward to
the new soccer season and we expect to launch our boat at Mitchell's Bay
and Erieau. We love the opportunity of living 5 minutes away from
downtown Chatham, but living in an area with large country lots and open
spaces.
There is a large European base to this community, and a smaller
multiracial base which is accepting of newcomers. I have already felt
the sense of pride and growth in the community."
--Susan L. Munro MD BSc
"There are many benefits to living in Chatham as
compared to Toronto where I lived previously. The difference in the cost
of housing is astounding. The quality of home that one can afford here
is far superior than one could ever manage in the city. Travel is
another major issue. I spent 2 hours a day commuting in Toronto. Here, I
spent 10 minutes a day. My practice was busy from the day that it was
opened. My family has settled in without any problem at all. They are
really enjoying their new school."
